Black mondo grass is a perennial which can be evergreen in milder climates. It spreads very slowly by underground stolons. It will form small clumps. A runner will pop up with a new clump a short distance away. This is also known as 'Black Dragon'. It is native to Japan. It has lavender flowers which eventually form very striking black berries. It is in the Liliaceae family. Hardy to USDA Zone 6 (-10 F) and warmer. They can take half day to full sun.
